What you'll do: use KhataOS on an Android phone, and see what works differently there. An iPhone version is coming.

There are no releases in the app stores yet. On Android, download the app from the download page: open Install steps on the Android card to see what to tap. There's no iPhone app yet; developers can build it from source: see Install.

KhataOS on a phone is the same app as on the desktop, with the same books and keys. It needs Android 7.0 or newer, or iOS 15 or newer.

Getting around with touch

  • Tap any button on the bars: it does the same as its key.
  • The F1–F12 button opens a drawer with the function keys (F8 for Sales and so on).
  • The Back button, or Android's back gesture, is Esc.
  • Lists open as sheets from the bottom of the screen. Forms are one column.
  • Amount fields bring up the number keypad.
  • The calculator button at the top opens the calculator with its own keypad.
  • With a hardware keyboard attached, every shortcut works as on a computer, and key hints appear once you press a key.

Your books on the phone

Company files are kept in the app's private storage. To work on the same books as your office or accountant, connect to them through the relay or the office network, or open an accountant file (.khatapkg). See Sharing. You can import Tally XML files from the phone too (up to 200 MB each).

What doesn't work on a phone yet

  • Printing, and saving a report as PDF through printing. Use Ctrl+E (CSV) on a report, or the PDF in a saved invoice's Export menu (Ctrl+E), or print from a computer.
  • Acting as the office server. A phone can connect to an office server, but can't be one.
  • Quitting on iOS (close the app the usual way).
  • There is no way to delete a company from inside the app yet.
  • A share sheet, native printing and a tablet layout are planned.
